Our Great Overland Expeditions

Alaska - The Dalton Highway

The Dalton Highway, also known as Alaska Route 11, is one of the most remote and challenging roads in North America, stretching 414 miles from just north of Fairbanks to the Arctic Ocean at Prudhoe Bay. Originally built as a supply route for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, this rugged highway offers adventurous travelers the opportunity to experience some of the most pristine and unspoiled wilderness in the world. The road passes through stunning landscapes, including the Yukon River, the Arctic Circle, and the Brooks Range, providing a gateway to witness the stark beauty of Alaska’s interior. However, the Dalton Highway is not for the faint of heart—its rough gravel surfaces, extreme weather conditions, and long stretches without services make it a true test of endurance and preparation for any driver.

Whether you’re seeking the thrill of traversing one of the most isolated highways on the planet or hoping to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights in winter or the midnight sun in summer, the Dalton Highway offers a truly unique and unforgettable adventure.
